You are here: Tour / Content Reuse

liveSTORYBOARD CMS facilitates maximum content reuse

...Which translates to flexibility for your site, the consistency of your message, portability of content between different areas of your site and between different publishing media.

What's more, content reuse directly affects your bottom line - you wouldn't want to waste resources by reentering the same content on multiple pages or once for your site, once for your PDF download, right? We are certain you wouldn't, but let's just imagine you did - what happens if you have 5 pages referring to a product you decide to stop selling or 10 pages on your site mention a client that's no longer a client, of 50 pages list your company's address and you move, or 100 pages list as a contact an ex-employee, or ... OK, these are somewhat gloomy scenarios, but you get the picture: a) an update nightmare and b) it's going to cost editor/developer/quality assurance resource time. liveSTORYBOARD CMS to the rescue! liveSTORYBOARD CMS leverages the power of XML to facilitate maximum content portability and reusability.

Pages, regions, content pieces and components

liveSTORYBOARD CMS breaks down the page into more granular units - content regions. A region can be a column, or any area of a page. You assign content pieces to the regions predefined in your site's templates. This way, a product description, for example, can be written once, assigned to many pages or even folders (and display on all pages in that folder). So, when you delete that content piece, you can remove all references to the no-longer-available-product from your site completely - with a click and rest assured your customers will not see contradicting or inaccurate information.

The liveSTORYBOARD Assign control enables you to:

  1. Pick folders or pages to assign content to;

  2. View and arrange the order of content and components assigned to a predefined region;

  3. Search the content repository for content to assign through numerous helpful search mechanisms, such as: full text search, by label, by modification date, by topic, by type, by status, by author.

In addition, the Assign control allows you to add components to regions. Most often components are automated features for your site, such as Email-a-Friend, contact or other forms, Table of Contents, etc.

Token replacement

liveSTORYBOARD CMS makes it possible to further granularize content, even down to the phrase or word level. Imagine you are authoring content for syndication or simply use a phrase frequently and would like to save time retyping it - you could set up tokens for your site. A token is a quick way of using a typing convention for a word or phrase that liveSTORYBOARD will translate into the defined word or phrase at generation time.

To use this feature, you would define the token label (e.g. "livesb") and the token full text (e.g. "liveSTORYBOARD CMS"), and when you enter content, you would use the label between "@" signs for liveSTORYBOARD to translate it at generation (@livesb@ will be translated to liveSTORYBOARD CMS or @tel@ would translate into your full phone number).
